Cooking

I don't have as much time for cooking as I would like, and I'm not that great at it. (I never paid attention when I was growing up and my Mom was trying to teach me how to cook - except for cookies of course). But I guess I learned some things by osmosis or something because I cook very similar to the way my Mom does, and now I really enjoy it! Below are some of my various... well, most of them are experiments really.

Starting with the most recent...

Marty's Birthday Cake - December 7, 2011

First time I've made Marty a decorated cake for his birthday - I decided to dedicate this one to his truck, which had a rough year.

First Practice with Cake Decorating Kit - September 26, 2010

One of the things on my wish list this past year was a "starter" cake decorating kit. My Mom has made and decorated cakes for us for as long as I can remember, and her grandmother used to do it REALLY well too. I haven't been interested until now, but with Samantha's 5th birthday coming up I decided I wanted to make her a cake myself and be able to decorate it at least a little. So my Mom got me a really great starter kit and this is my first practice session. I have to make the birthday cake in 2 weeks.

Dinner - July 8, 2010

We had a lot of fresh vegetables given to us, and I wanted to use them before they went bad. I made a stuffed white squash, sauteed zucchini and yellow squash, okra, pasta salad, and zucchini bread. Then bananas foster for dessert.

Dinner - June 28, 2010

I made a chickpea and butternut squash stew from a recipe that our nanny gave me. It was REALLY good. Lots of flavor, very yummy. Served over couscous, which I always enjoy.

Marty's Birthday Dinner - December 7, 2004

This was a 5 course meal that I made for Marty for his birthday. I went all out for this - you'll notice the portions are small and of course we were stuffed after course #3! It was fun tho - fun to make and fun to eat. Marty probably liked the presents the best tho. ;)

Thanksgiving Dinner - November 25, 2004

Big Thanksgiving dinner at our house. I decorated and made baked apples the day before, and cooked everything else Thanksgiving morning. I love hosting Thanksgiving - it gives me an excuse to cook way too much food!

Dinner - October 9, 2004

I decided to throw a bunch of stuff (and I mean a BUNCH of stuff) together in a pot and make a stew using some ingredients I don't use often and some never before (like leeks). It was okay but sort of bland. It was pretty too tho and smelled really good.

I roasted a bunch of different vegetables. They didn't all get as done as I like but, again, it looked real pretty.
