I forgot my camera but this was Samantha's first swim class this year. This picture was taken on my phone so it's not great.
So here's my observations - the pool was more crowded than Candler Swim Club (where we went last year but seems to be closed down this year). And they didn't have a roped off area for just lessons or anything so Samantha was easily distracted at least at first. However, I think that will get better in coming lessons, I think she was just taking in all the newness today. She was the only one in her class so she had all 30 minutes to herself.
The instructor was Ms. Hannah - she was very patient and you could tell she was kind of feeling out Samantha to see where she was at as far as listening abilities and swim skills, but I could tell she will push Samantha to do as much as she can and then some. Not too far out of her comfort zone but enough that she will accomplish something.
Even just today Samantha did great - she kicked (they worked some on fundamentals of kicking in a variety of different ways) and on strokes with the arms (fundamentals of how to hold your hands with fingers together and stretch your arms way out). Sami got to jump off the side every time she really accomplished something (kicked the WHOLE way instead of stopping and gliding) or something and that was a great motivation. She got to jump off the side 3 or 4 times. Several times they did blowing bubbles too and Sami put both her mouth and her nose under the water to blow bubbles. Sami was very proud of herself for doing that.
Afterwards the teacher said she did really really well for her first day and said that she really listened very good and that she expects that Sami will make some quick improvements this year.
Sami was tired and hungry afterwards (she had eaten lunch just before she went so she'll double her intake of food for the next 2 weeks I guess). But she said she had fun and I was teasing her about not going back tomorrow and she said she did want to go back (enthusiastically as you can imagine).
