Myrtle Beach Bike Rally → May 17 - 20, 2001

Our first ever big bike trip was from May 17th - 20th, 2001 to the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. On the 17th Marty and I met Tiffany (my college roommate) in Asheboro, NC and rode with her back to our house in Raleigh. She spent the night with us that Friday night. Early in the morning on Saturday, May 18th, Marty, myself, and Tiffany met my parents just down the road. Thus began our trip to the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally. Our group included 4 bikes, my 2000 XL 1200C (Sportster), Marty's 2001 XL 1200C (Sportster), my parents' 2000 FXDL (Low Rider), and Tiffany's 2001 XL 1200C (Sportster). It rained just before we left so the roads were wet and it was a little chilly, so we were pretty bundled up to start out.

On the way down to Myrtle Beach we only stopped a few times. One of those times was at Jones Lake.

We got to the Best Western that we stayed at in Whiteville, NC around 2pm and checked into the hotel. Then it was off to the rally. There are some pictures below taken at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. We went to the Convention Center but it closed just about the time we got there. We went down "the strip" a couple times (never seen so many bikes travelling in one group before). We stopped at some of the shops and bought a couple t-shirts. Went down to the beach and snapped a couple pictures of the sand and the ocean. Then we headed back towards the hotel (about 50 miles away). We got rained on pretty good on the way back and ended up stopping to wait out the rain for a little while shortly after we left Myrtle Beach. After a good night's sleep we hit the road back home... of course we took the "long" way home. We stopped at Calabash on the way home for some good seafood.
